Galletti

Galletti are the simplest Maltese snack you can bake! Try experimenting by adding herbs or spices to your mix to give it that personal flavour.

Ingredients:

  • 1cup Warm Water

  • 1/4tsp Dry Yeast

  • 1/4tsp Sugar

  • Around 700g Plain Flour

  • 1tsp Melted Butter

  • Salt & Pepper

  • Some semolina to open the dough

Directions:

  1. Start by mixing a cup of warm water with 1/4tsp of dry yeast and 1/4tsp of sugar.

  2. Mix and wait until they get frothy.

  3. Then using a mixer start adding plain flour and a tsp of melted butter.

  4. Keep adding flour until you get a dry dough (roughly 700g)

  5. Cover it and let it rest for an hour.

  6. Then open it thinly, ideally with a pasta machine using some semolina.

  7. Cut into circles using a cookie cutter and place them on a baking sheet.

  8. Punch three holes in the centre with a toothpick and drizzle with salt and crushed pepper.

  9. Bake in a preheated 220 degrees Celsius oven for around 15mins or until golden brown.
