Italian Tuna Ftira

Crunchy ftira bread with a pesto/tuna filling. 


Ingredients for 2 Portions:

  • 2 cans (240g) Blue Angel Tuna in Sunflower Oil (drained)

  • 20g Ready-Made Pesto Sauce

  • 50g Roasted Red Peppers (sliced)

  • 25g Sun-dried Tomatoes (chopped)

  • 1/2 Red Onion (thinly sliced)

  • 20g Fresh Spinach Leaves

  • 100g Fresh Mozzarella Cheese

  • Fresh Basil Leaves

  • 2 Maltese Small Ftira Buns

  • Olitalia Extra Virgin Olive Oil (for drizzling)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions:

  1. Cut the pepper and roast it in a hot oven/air fryer for about 20 minutes. Then place it in a bowl and cover it for 10 minutes. It will make it easier to peel.

  2. In a bowl, mix the drained tuna with the pesto sauce. Season with salt and pepper. 

  3. Cut the ftira bread in half. Drizzle a small amount of olive oil on the inside of the bread and lightly toast in a hot skillet.

  4. Layer the bottom half with fresh spinach leaves.

  5. Spoon the tuna mixture on top of the spinach.

  6. Add some sliced roasted red peppers, chopped sun-dried tomatoes, and thinly sliced red onion.

  7. Top with slices of fresh mozzarella cheese.

  8. Add fresh basil leaves if desired.
