Ingredients:
Dough:
250g Plain Flour
250g Pure Ground Almonds
170g Castor Sugar
150g Crushed Roasted Almonds
2tsp Dark Cocoa Powder
Grated Zest of 1 Orange
Grated Zest of 1 Lemon
1.5tsp Orange Blossom Water (ilma zahar)
1/2tsp Cinnamon
1/2tsp Mixed Spice
1/2stp Vanilla Essence
200ml Water
Topping
2tbsp Honey
30g Roasted Chopped Pistachios or Almonds
Directions:
In a large bowl combine all the dry ingredients.
Mix them a bit then add the wet ingredients.
Work everything into a soft dough and form it into a thick sausage shape on a floured surface.
Cut the portions into the desired size and form the kwarezimal onto a baking tray lined with baking paper.
Flatten them a little and leave some space between them. Create a diamond pattern on top and bake them in a preheated 180°c oven for about 12 - 15 minutes. It’s very important that they remain soft when you pull them out of the oven. Otherwise, they will harden too much once they cool down.
Drizzle them with honey while they are still warm and sprinkle chopped pistachios or almonds.
Best enjoyed when they cool down completely and harden a little.
