Kit Kat Bones

Ingredients for 4 bones:

Sweet Dough:

  • 225g Plain Flour

  • 80g Caster Sugar

  • 110g Margarine

  • 1/4tsp Vanilla Essence

  • 2 Egg Yolks

  • Zest of one Lemon

  • A Pinch of Salt

Centre:

  • 4 Kit Kat Chunky (any flavour)

  • 1 Packet of Maltesers

Glaze:

  • 50g Icing Sugar

  • 1tbsp Milk or Water

  • 1/4tsp Vanilla Essence

  • A Pinch of Salt

  • Roasted Peanuts or Hazelnuts

Directions:

  • 1. Start with the dough. In a food processor, mixer or a large bowl combine together the flour (sifted), sugar, margarine, salt and lemon zest until they become crumbly.

    2. Add the yolks and vanilla and knead until it starts to come together.

    3. Knead for a couple of more minutes until it forms an oily dough. Do not add flour because it will dry it out.

    4. Wrap in cling film and refrigerate for at least an hour.

    5. After it chills, cut into four sections.

    6. Place a piece of dough between 2 sheets of baking paper and open thinly with the help of a rolling pin. The thickness should be around 2mm.

    8. To make baking easier, cut a small piece of baking paper and flip the dough on top of it.

    8. Place a Kit Kat in the centre and 4 Maltesers in the corners to make a rough 'bone' shape.

    9. Roughly cut around the edges and open up the scraps using the same method.

    10. Cover the chocolate with the dough sheet and gently go around the edges to seal the filling and let the air out.

    11. Cut around the edges and form the bone shape using your fingers. Do not break the dough, if it happens patch it up or pinch it to seal it again.

    12. Bake in a preheated 180°c oven for 25-30 minutes or until they start getting some colour. Do not let them go dark.

    13. After baking cool them off on a wire rack until they are completely cold.

    13. Combine the glaze ingredients together until it's silky smooth and brush the bones. Finish them off with roasted peanuts or hazelnuts and let them get solid before serving them.
